Auckland is built on a fertile volcanic isthmus nestled between the Pacific Ocean & the Tasman Sea with 2 main natural harbours, the Waitemata and Manukau Harbours. In and around Auckland, the city is built on about 55 volcanic cones, many of which still exist today and can be explored accordingly. Others have been altered, in some instances significantly, since humans started making this strategically vital place in New Zealand their home about 800 years ago. The Private Auckland Volcanoes Luxury Tour provides a highlight of Auckland city based on visits to both iconic and also lesser-known volcanic cones of great natural and historical significance, providing an opportunity to learn about how they shaped the history of the city. This tour can also incorporate a visit to the Auckland Museum where a special volcanic display is housed (museum entrance fee not included). To complement the tour itself, this could be of interest to our guests to see the displays which further enhance what you learn during the tour. Learning about what Auckland is built on is both interesting, exciting and also a little disconcerting when you realise that according to vulcanologists, it’s not a matter of if, but rather when, the next volcanic eruption will occur. Desc: Spend a day on the Port Hills at one of Christchurch’s most spectacular climbing areas. If you’re entirely new to climbing and want to give it a go or, a seasoned climber looking for some local tips, this is the trip for you. From the city centre, it’s a 30 minutes drive up to the rock climbing area. The drive up the hill will take you through some of Christchurch’s most affluent suburbs, affording uninterrupted views from the Pacific Ocean to the Southern Alps in the west. The climbing areas use scattered across the summit of an enormous extinct volcano that formed Banks Penninsula and Lyttelton Harbour. With over 2000 established climbing routes, Christchurch is one of the largest and most popular climbing areas in New Zealand. From the carpark, it’s only a short walk to the crag (climbing area). Your guide will set up the ropes and give you a safety briefing and belay lesson before you start your first climb. Once you’re feeling confident with the climbing systems, your guide will help you to improve your climbing. Throughout the day, your guide will continue to set up climbs that will be challenging, achievable and safe for the group. We will have lunch up at the crag overlooking either Christchurch City or Lyttelton Harbour. Afternoon- Abseiling & Rock Climbing After lunch, we have a go at abseiling (controlled lower) where you will have the opportunity to lower yourself off one of the Crags. If you’re keen for some more climbing or abseiling your guide will be happy to find the perfect spot to finish the day.
